Year 6 to 7 Transition
Year 6 to 7 Transition & Induction
Welcome to the Year 7 transition page. On this page over the coming few months you will find useful information about the transition to Three Rivers Academy.
This page will be updated regularly with useful documents, so please ensure that you check it on a frequent basis.
We are excited to welcome our new Year 7 cohort to Three Rivers Academy for the next stage of their educational journey.
We are passionate about seeing students strive to be the best they can be, and believe that every student has the potential to excel in both academic and social aspects of the school environment.
For your perusal, you will find our current Year 7 Topic Overviews under the Curriculum tab on our school website. This will give you an idea of what students will be studying in each subject during their first year with us.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our Three Rivers Academy community and seeing students grow both academically and socially.
Key Dates
Tuesday 1st July 2025 - Induction Day for Students
On this day we will invite all our new Year 7 students to Three Rivers Academy, where they will get to experience life as a secondary school pupil and also get to meet all their new class mates. Students are to arrive at Three Rivers Academy at 8.20am and make their way to the far end of the building. By this date your child will have been allocated their tutor group. Tutor groups are mixed so that students can get to know as many new people as possible. This really helps with the development of new friendships and skills.
Tuesday 1st July 2025 - Parents Welcome Evening
The Welcome meeting will take place in the Main Hall and will start promptly at 6pm. This meeting is an opportunity to hear about our expectations and to meet some of the key staff who will help your son/daughter make their effective transition to secondary school.

Student Support
Year 7 Form Tutors
Students are primarily supported by their form tutors. Form tutors are the first contact point for parents, unless reporting an absence. Students will be in one of eight tutor groups and you will be notified of which one prior to starting. Each tutor group is made up of around 30 students from a variety of feeder schools. This is a really exciting opportunity to make new friends and get to know new people. Tutor groups are led by a form tutor. Students see their tutors in the morning for registration at 8.30am and again at the end of lunch at 13.50pm.
Year Lead
The Year Lead for Year 7 for the 2025 cohort will be updated shortly. The Year Lead will lead assemblies and visit tutor groups. He will be supported by a Deputy Year Lead and also by a Pastoral Manager. The Pastoral Manager is a non-teaching member of staff who is also a valuable support mechanism and will help support on pastoral issues.
Assistant Head (over-seeing Year 7)
One of the members of the Senior Leadership Team also takes responsibility for overseeing Year 7 and monitoring their transition. Mr Wait currently fulfils this role.
